700 days to Go` function organised

The ‘700 Days to Go’ celebration was organised by the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 at the city’s most prominent landmark, India Gate, on November 9, 2008. The event served to create awareness about this prestigious multi-sport event among the citizens of Delhi and to bring the stakeholders in the Games together in a shared acknowledgement that the countdown to the much-awaited Commonwealth Games 2010 had started in real earnest.

The event showcased the true spirit of adventure and dare devilry of the Indian Army as its personnel put up magnificent motorcycle, para-jumping and para-motoring displays. The ING Renault team enthralled the audience with the road show and car rally that were held on Rajpath as did the Logan car parade. The Exhibition Village was open to the public as well as the media, and people could enjoy Megane Trophy car rides, two-seater Formula car rides, and much more.

The road show was flagged off by Chief Guest, Lt. Governor of Delhi Mr. Tajendra Khanna. Guests of Honour included Dr. M.S. Gill, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mrs. Shiela Dixit, Chief Minister, GNCTD, and Mr. Mike Fennel, CGF President. Delhiites turned out in huge numbers to enjoy the event and to show their solidarity with the spirit of the Commonwealth Games.
