NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dikshit and Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi Chairman Mr. Suresh Kalmadi on Friday inaugurated the Ludlow Castle Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, training venue wrestling for the Commonwealth Games.
Mr. Kalmadi appreciated the pace of construction of the Games-related project, expressed confidence that they would all be completed within the stipulated time. He said by organising the Commonwealth Games successfully, India would get an opportunity to lay its claim on hosting the Olympic Games.
The Chief Minister said all projects related to the sporting event would be completed in time and funds would not be a problem as an additional Rs.1,300 crore has already been made available under the Plan outlay for the current year.
Ms. Dikshit said the construction of both Thyagraj Stadium and the Chhatrasal Stadium was also going on at full swing and they are expected to be completed in March, 2010.
Public Works Department Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said that the construction of the Ludlow Castle venue has been completed in a record time at a cost of Rs.13 crore.
Though the government had sanctioned Rs 20 crore, the project was completed at a cost of Rs 13 crore in 11 months. The venue was built after demolishing the badminton hall. The ground floor has various facilities such as restrooms, gym, cafeteria, physiotherapy centres, doping control centre, changing rooms, sauna bath and a medical centre. The first floor has a training hall, which can accommodate six wrestling mats at a time.
