NEW DELHI, 29 April 2010: Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mike Hooper has said Delhi Government and Delhi Police are taking the task of providing security for the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi very seriously.
“Security arrangements have been put in place by the Delhi government and Delhi Police and this is a responsibility they are taking very seriously and there is nothing to suggest that won't be the case,” he told The Telegraph newspaper in England.
Mr. Hooper said that he was in constant discussion with the Deputy High Commissioners of Britain, New Zealand, Canada and Australia about security matters and pointed out that no country had withdrawn from the Games, which features about 8000 participants, including new Commonwealth addition Rwanda that will send a team of 100 athletes to the Games.
He said other concerns about food safety and traffic congestion had been addressed by organisers of Delhi 2010. There will be food testing and strict hygiene standards within the Games Village, he said.
“There has been a dramatic change in the city infrastructure and my journey into the city from the airport now takes half the time it used to because of new flyovers and the metro is about to open in July which will be a big benefit too," Mr. Hooper said.
