Wrestling Stadium opened, set to inspire great competition

NEW DELHI: The newly-constructed Wrestling Stadium in the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, one of the venues for this year's Commonwealth Games, was inaugurated by Union Sports minister M S Gill here on Sunday. The 6,000-seater state-of-the-art venue has been built at a cost of Rs 120 crore and has a built-up area of 22,350 square metres.

“The stadium is so inspiring. It is one of the best wrestling centres in the country. This is an outstanding and a remarkable engineering marvel equipped with all the modern facilities,” he said. The field of play measures 56mx38m and has Maple wood flooring with three competition mats. The warm–up hall has six mats on a field of play that measures 34mx37m and has Maple wood flooring.

It is also equipped with Green building features like thermal insulation of roof with rock wool insulation, gypsum board partitions and wall paneling, external glazing with low-energy tinted glasses and energy efficient lighting fixtures etc.

The field of play will be tested during the Asian championship that will be held from May 12 to 16
