EC asks DG of CW Games Organising Comm to appear before it
New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) The Election Commission today summoned the Director General of the Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games to appear before it in connection with release of advertisements in violation of the model code of conduct.
The top official has been called along with the file in which the decision was taken to release the advertisement as also the Memorandum of the Association of the Organising Committee, Deputy Election Commissioner J P Prakash told reporters.
He said the Director General has been given time till April 30.
Three officials -- Shovana Narayan, Joint Director, Neel Chatterjee, Additional Director General and Bharat Prasad, Deputy Director of the Committee -- appeared before the EC today, he said.
The EC had earlier served a notice to them asking them why a sum of over Rs 26 lakh should not be recovered from them for releasing the advertisements.
To a question, Prakash said that the EC has given time till tomorrow to senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh to reply to its notice on violation of the model code of conduct by allegedly threatening to use the CBI against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. PTI
